          POEMS - 2015 - What About Now

          Column

          WHAT ABOUT NOW?

           A merry young man,

          And His regal horse,

Ran swift through the forest one day,

          With thundering hooves,

          And a flowing mane,

          The stallion began to neigh.

          “Shall I stretch my wings?”

          Asked the steely steed,

“Shall I take to the sky in flight?”

          “The enemy nears,

          With teeth like spears,

And eyes as the black of night.”

          “No,” answered the lad,

          With a widening grin,

As He slid under the horses great neck,

          “Things look good from here,

          There’s no need to fear!”

But the horse could not help but check.

          The furious demons,

          With tails like whips,

Closed in on the flank and the rear,

          Fifty or more,

          Began to pour,

From the darkness into the clear.

          “What about now?”

          He asked the lad,

“Do you think that it’s time to go?”

          As they neared a cliff,

          His legs went stiff,

And his nostrils began to blow.

          “No,” answered the lad,

          As He drew the steed,

As tight as a turn on a dime,

          “We’ll face them head on,

          Until they are gone,

Or until they have run out of time”.

          The pair stood their ground,

          As they heard the sound,

Of the cries of the blood curdling foe,

          But the louder the cries,

          The brighter the skies,

O’re the lad as He started to “glow”.

          The ten foot demons,

          That lurked in the dark,

Shrank as they entered His light,

          So tiny and weak,

          Their voices a shriek,

They lost their fire and fight.

          The great steeds’ hooves,

          Were bigger than,

          The tallest demon spark,

          As he stepped aside,

          Most demons died,

And the rest fled back to the dark.

          “What about now?”

          He asked the lad,

“Shall I take to the sky in flight?”

          “Ay! We’ll launch from here,

          To a new frontier,

For in victory the time is right!”

          1 Chronicles 29:10-13 (KJV)

10 Wherefore David blessed the Lord before all the congregation: and David said, Blessed be thou, Lord God of Israel our father, for ever and ever.

11 Thine, O Lord is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou art exalted as head above all.

12 Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.

13 Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name.
