LITTLE BROWN MONARCH
Little brown monarch,
Lost and lone,
Little brown monarch,
Far from home,
With velvet wings,
As light as foam,
Where will you go?
Where will you roam?
Little brown monarch,
Jewel of the wind,
The season has waned,
The leaves have thinned,
The days are short,
My heart chagrined,
Little brown monarch,
My nomadic friend.
Little brown monarch,
‘The Leaving’ has gone,
And you’re as late,
As a winter swan,
The frost is nigh,
The curtain is drawn,
Will you make it,
Till the dawn?
Little brown monarch,
You swirl and dip,
You temp the dog,
You braise his lip,
He takes a chomp,
You roll and flip,
You’ll need that boldness,
On “your” trip.
Little brown monarch,
Would that I could,
Keep you warm,
Beneath my hood,
But OH! You’d miss,
The Oyamel wood,
The mountain tops,
And leaves so good.
Little brown monarch,
Rest on my hair,
Light as a feather,
So gently there,
Ethereal presence,
Lucent and bare,
I bid you safe journey,
On a silent prayer.
Little brown monarch,
Take your flight,
Rise on thermals,
Into the night,
Sail to the compass,
Glide like a kite,
Above the clouds,
Your future’s bright.
Little brown monarch,
We’ll meet again,
I know not where,
I know not when,
Our children will play,
Beyond the fen,
Little brown monarch,
Amen, Amen.

John 16:16 (KJV)
A little while, and ye shall not see me:
and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.
