THE SUIT
Late at night an angel came,
To measure me for a suit,
“Not so quick!” I yelled with shock,
Though he barely gave a hoot.
“What’s the game?” I asked with haste,
As he measured me for a boot,
“If you’re planning my demise,
I’m not ready for that commute!”
On he worked with tape in hand,
Silent and without dispute,
Shaking his head and pensive,
I said, “Stop it!” and then, “Scoot!”
None the less he kept right on,
Quite hesitant to refute,
Till our gaze met eye to eye,
I could see he was astute.
“Tell me then”, I asked concerned,
“What is your main pursuit?
What has brought you here this hour?
Why have you taken this route?”
Poised with grace he stood full height,
T’was ten feet tall and resolute,
His wings were so magnificent,
That I gave him a full salute.
He said,
“The source of earthly clothing,
Hails long from worldly loot,
Carnal wear is all for naught,
It decays and then pollutes.”
“Don’t you know?” he asked with ease,
“Your heavenly garments are your repute,
What you say and do on earth,
Becomes your soul’s impute.”
“Your spirit wears a garment,
Made from spiritual fruit,
Fashioned by the Holy Spirit,
With communion as the root.”
“Shall your garment shine with beauty?
Or shall it be frail and dilute?
Shall your crown be laced with jewels?
Or be barren and minute?”
“Don’t be dim, and don’t be deceived,
Be vigilant and acute,
A garment made from works alone,
Is not a flower but a shoot”.
“Your garment is the music,
Played by a holy flute,
It is not a calculation,
Which humans can compute."
“Some garments are brown and sturdy,
Strong and faithful … resolute,
While others are light and flowing,
With purity … absolute.”
“But of this one thing you can be sure,
Whether you plant or you uproot,
Your soul stands before the throne of God,
Dressed in a spiritually woven suit.”

Isaiah 61:10 (KJV)
I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for He hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, He hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
