SLIM PICKENS
(The Beatitudes)
I hope your name is “Slim”,
Because God is searching to and fro,
For someone,
Anyone,
Whom he can count on,
And so far,
He has only found,
“Slim Pickens”.
Slim trembles,
At the sight of God,
The very thought of God,
Makes his knees week.
Slim reverences,
The Sovereign Lord,
And lays every care,
At His feet.
Slim is easy going,
He has a relaxed warmth,
He is not looking for anything,
From anyone – but God.
Slim gets excited,
About all the same things,
That God gets excited about,
They talk together for hours on end.
Slim empties his pockets,
Frequently for the poor,
Though his pockets are seldom,
Ever without the sound of gold in them.
Slim laughs at his own jokes,
And makes God laugh too,
Sometimes they laugh so hard,
That he has to catch his breath.
Slim is a peaceful man,
And is not looking for a fight,
But he is not afraid,
Of one neither.
Slim tries to do what is right,
Though he is often,
Misunderstood,
And ridiculed.
Slim takes one for the team,
And often keeps his mouth shut,
He lets God,
Even the score.
Slim is a lot like,
Clint Eastwood in the movies,
And only asks one question,
“Do you feel like Slim Pickens today?”

Matthew 5:1-12 (KJV)
And seeing the multitudes,
He went up on a mountain:
And when He was set,
His disciples came unto Him:
And He opened His mouth, and taught them saying,
Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they that mourn,
for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek:
for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness:
for they shall be filled.
Blessed are the merciful:
for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart:
for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers:
for they shall be called the children of God.
Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake:
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
Rejoice, and be exceeding glad:
for great is your reward in heaven:
for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
