FEATHERLIGHT AND DUSTY
A sparrow and a donkey had a mission to fulfill,
A sacred undertaking,
No one else to fit the bill.
Featherlight and Dusty sat high upon a hill,
To wait for Jesus,
They knew His will.
Featherlight trembled in the early morning chill,
The night had taken,
A lamb to kill.
Dusty brayed, “Where are they now? The crowds beneath the cross.
They who waved palm branches,
Now count it a loss.
Just hours ago they hailed Him king as He sat upon my back,
I carried Him through Jerusalem,
Our dignity intact.
Just hours ago they praised Him as He healed every ill,
Those He fed and healed,
Their voices are now still."
Featherlight and Dusty would not close their eyes,
They banked upon the promise,
That He would soon arise.
Then suddenly in early dawn the faithful pair were not alone,
As God’s angel struck the earth,
And rolled away the stone.
The angel came with power to set the ranking right,
To minister and hail the king,
To mark the end of night.
For heaven had just witnessed a scourge beneath the earth,
Where Jesus openly triumphed,
Over evil's lack of mirth.
The angels folded linen as they pondered so great a love,
On such a silent morning,
The story told above.
The angels saw the irony as Jesus left the tomb,
They were in an arena,
Not an empty room.
Featherlight fluffed her wings against the deep blue sky,
For Jesus always kept His Word,
Of that He could not lie.
Musty Dusty shook his mane of dry and reddened earth,
Jesus had just paid the price,
None could gauge such worth!
Jesus welcomed the morning light,
As He emerged,
And stood full height.
He was alive and proven right.
The joyous pair,
Jumped at the sight.
“I'm glad to see you. I knew you’d be here.
It seemed far away,
But was very near.”
Then the others came with spices for the dead,
If only they knew,
T’was a party instead.
But heaven knew there would be no one there,
Save a donkey and a bird,
A loyal pair.
God and His Spirit,
Sat high on a hill,
To await the Son,
Complete His will.

Matthew 28:2 (KJV)
And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.
